The deadlines for native Emiratis to a have submitted an application for an ID card is 31 October. However, for expatriates the deadlines differ depending on where the expat lives in the UAE.

Expatriates in the areas of Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman, will pay the late fines from December 1, as will any expats currently working for the government.

Them, come 1 February 2012, expats living in the Sharjah will be fined, expats in Abu Dhabi will be fined from 1 April 2012 and expats in Dubai will be fined from 1 June 2012.

The fines have been introduced as numerous previous deadlines were missed, and anyone who does not apply for the ID card in time will face a fine of Dh20 per day.
