Jersey Finance has made efforts to create new jobs by opening offices abroad. New premises have been secured in Hong Kong and mainland China in a bid to promote Jersey as a leading offshore financial centre.
In turn it is thought that by creating this new level of awareness about Jersey abroad, extra jobs could be created back on the island itself. The chief executive of Jersey Finance, Geoff Cook, told the BBC: “We've been working hard not just encouraging people to bring their business here, but to actually bring physical businesses, which will bring job creation with them”. He added that many businesses were in line for addition but claimed that “commercial sensitivity” prohibited him from actually naming them.
Jersey Finance is hoping that they can capitalise on the increased presence of Jersey in Asia, with their companies now listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
