The small town of Yeadon in West Yorkshire is in mourning today for its lost son Nathan Thackwray.
The British summer camp instructor and expat died after venturing out into a lake in Northern France late at night.
The 20 year old British expat was working for a British travel operator called Acorn Travel Group at a lake near Ardes. A water sports instructor, it is thought Nathan was enjoying a late night out after the departure of a tour group when hijinks turned tragic.
After going missing colleagues sounded the alarm and alerted local police at a little before 3am local time. Unfortunately Mr Thackwray was pronounced dead at 10:30am after a 5 hour search of local waterways utilizing a police helicopter equipped with thermal imaging cameras.
As relatives arrived in France to formally identify the body, friends and family have been speaking out on Facebook about the young man they knew with his sister, Jessica, writing on Facebook, “Can’t believe I won’t see my brother again.”.
@amelia_lec_ wrote on Twitter, “He made everything about Adres [sic] amazing! Such a pleasure to know him”, while @Sophiehartley1 said he was “a great guy who loved life”.
However a spokesperson for the travel operator Acorn could only say that, “We are unable to make any comment at the moment”
