Indian recruitment firms have reported that there has been a significant rise in western expats seeking employment in India.
At the moment there are around 40,000 expats in India, but according to Delhi based recruitment firm Global Hunt, there has been a 20 percent rise in applications.
Expats are often in high demand in India, especially in the banking, financial services, automobile, pharmaceutical and retail sectors.
Sunil Goel, director at GlobalHunt, said: “Expats are coming from all over the region including Europe as we have a real need for them. India is the second fastest growing economy in the world and expansion is happening everywhere. Growth is huge because of the sheer size of the population. Expats tend to be veterans and so are required to understand the complexities in India. Many industries have also become mature and are utilising the expertise and experience of expats. For example, there are many nuclear energy professionals who are in demand in India because of nuclear energy expansion plans by our companies.”
Ratnesh Kumar, from Elixir Consulting, added: “Many expats are now suffering the global blues and are finding relocating temporarily to India as a good option so that they further their chances when a more permanent and suitable opportunity comes their way. The trend of expats coming to India is only a phase and largely to make best use of the opportunities from India’s growth.”
