Survey slams HMRC

HMRC

A new survey has revealed that the UK public rate HMRC as the worst organisation in the whole of England when it comes to sending out incorrect bills.

Every year the price comparison site uSwitch conducts a survey to examine the attitudes of UK citizens with regards to incorrect bills and poor customer service. Now, for the first time since the poll was first carried out, the UK public have voted HMRC as the worst.

Around 2,000 people took part in the survey, 18 percent of all the respondents said that HMRC were frequently “very inaccurate”.

Previously, energy companies always had worse results than HMRC, but this trend has now changed.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch, said: “Inaccurate bills are no laughing matter for consumers who can end up out of pocket and wasting time and effort trying to resolve billing blunders. The fact is that households are at the blunt end of hugely varying standards in billing accuracy, with some industries, companies and organisations performing noticeably better than others and some consistently coming in at the bottom of the class."
