British expats await the Royal Wedding

British expatriates are eagerly awaiting the impending celebrations when Prince William makes an honest woman out of Kate Middleton on April 29.

Factions of Brits all over the world are planning parties and functions galore to celebrate the biggest Royal wedding since Prince Charles wed the late Lady Diana back in 1981.

New York will see a grand celebration organised by a group who have dubbed themselves the ‘Big Apple Brits’. Their ambitious plan involves a 21-hour party starting at 5am and running till 1 m the next day. The party itself will take place in a rented out Manhattan loft, and there will be entertainment provided by DJs, comedians and theatrical groups. One of the founders of the group, Louise Gale, said: “We’re planning to make it street party-style, so childhood memories of the Queen's Jubilee will be flooding back for many of us!”

Another huge celebration is planned is planned in Singapore. There, The British Club is planning a truly epic celebration that is scheduled to go on for 10 days! Numerous events are planned for the festivities including a street party, themed-parties (including an Ascot bash with hats and all), Royal dinners and high tea. The British Club in Singapore is actually steeped in Royal history as it was originally opened by Princess Anne in 1987. Going all out, the British Club has even gone to the lengths of commissioning its own commemorative china set.

The many British expats in the UAE will also have numerous means of celebration to revel in. Dubai expat group Dubai Reunited is staging a big bash at the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club. Over in Bahrain there will also be fun in the shape of a live screening of the wedding by the Bahrain British Club and a royal wedding street party.
