Government minister to crack down on HMRC

HMRC

A government minister has pledged to sort out HMRC’s appalling customer service once and for all after branding the conduct of the organisation as “not acceptable”.

David Gauke, the exchequer secretary and also the man responsible for HMRC, has vowed to put an end to the series of errors and subsequent poor handling of UK citizens by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

He said: “HMRC deals with one billion transactions every year and with the volume of work they deal with, regrettably, it is likely some mistakes will be made. However, I think those mistakes are too common and not being dealt with quickly or effectively enough.”

This admission follows a commendable campaign by Money Mail that has seen a dossier of HMRCs errors being compiled and sent to the MPs. According to Guake 1,000 new staff members will be drafted in to help deal with the backlog of work that has built up.

Taxpayers around the country will now be hoping that some of the tax issues that have been rife throughout the last year will finally be addressed, and that future indiscretions will be handled in a more reserved and appropriate manner.
