Research In Motion, the makers of the BlackBerry, have won a reprieve that has halted the proposed ban of several of their key services in the United Arab Emirates.

UAE security agencies were trying to ban instant messaging, email and web browsing on all BlackBerry devices, citing a lack of information security as the reason. A battle between RIM and the UAE swiftly ensued but it is now believed that RIM have made changes to their encryption system and fallen in line with the demands made by the UAE, although the exact details of the arrangement are currently unknown.

UAE authorities, along with those from Saudi Arabia, India and Lebanon, voiced concerns over the data that transfers when BlackBerry owners use the aforementioned services.

However, the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Agreement has now confirmed that BlackBerry’s are good to continue: “All Blackberry services in the UAE will continue to operate as normal and no suspension of service will occur” and RIM said: “RIM cannot discuss the details of confidential regulatory matters that occur in specific countries, but RIM confirms that it continues to approach lawful access matters internationally within the framework of core principles that were publicly communicated by RIM on 12 August.”
